Information handled by Weather Budget
Financial and user-entered information
Weather Budget stores information you enter, including transaction amounts, dates, currencies, categories, notes, account names, budgets, goals, and receipt or file attachments. This information is used only to provide budgeting, record-keeping, statistics, import, and export features.
This information is stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud Sync, transaction data and supported settings are also stored in your private iCloud account so they can sync across your devices. Private CloudKit data is owned by you and is not visible to us through Apple’s developer portal.
Receipt photos and file attachments are currently stored locally and are not synced through CloudKit. They may be included when you choose to export your data.
Location and weather
If you enable Weather Reminders and grant location permission, Weather Budget obtains an approximate location and sends it to Apple Weather to retrieve a local forecast. Weather Budget stores forecast-derived information, such as expected conditions and temperatures, but does not retain your location coordinates.
You can withdraw location permission through iOS Settings and disable Weather Reminders in Weather Budget.
Currency conversion
Weather Budget requests exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API, operated by AYR Tech (Pty) Ltd. The request includes your selected base currency and ordinary network information, such as your IP address and technical request headers. Transaction amounts, notes, attachments, and account names are not sent to this service.
Device motion
Weather Budget processes device-motion information to animate its weather backgrounds. Motion information is processed on-device and is not stored or shared.
Account locks and biometrics
Weather Budget does not store your six-digit passcode. It stores a salted cryptographic hash in the device’s local Keychain. Face ID or Touch ID is handled by iOS; Weather Budget receives only whether authentication succeeded and does not receive biometric data.
Notifications
If permitted, Weather Budget schedules spending reminders using Apple’s notification system. You can disable these in Weather Budget or iOS Settings.
Sharing
Weather Budget does not sell personal information and does not use advertising, third-party analytics, or cross-app tracking.
Information is handled by third parties only where necessary to provide a feature:
- Apple, for iCloud, WeatherKit, notifications, and App Store services.
- ExchangeRate-API, for currency conversion. Its terms state that information may be processed in Ireland, South Africa, and Germany.
- A destination or person you select when exporting or sharing a CSV file.
These providers handle information under their own privacy policies and security obligations.
Retention and deletion
Local information remains on your device until you delete a transaction or account, remove an attachment, or uninstall Weather Budget.
Deletions made while iCloud Sync is enabled are synchronised through iCloud. Turning off iCloud Sync stops future transaction syncing but does not automatically delete information already stored in iCloud. You can manage or delete Weather Budget’s iCloud data through your Apple Account’s iCloud storage settings.
Exported files remain wherever you save or share them and must be deleted separately.
Your choices and requests
You can:
- View and edit your records within Weather Budget.
- Export your records as CSV.
- Delete transactions or accounts.
- Disable iCloud Sync and Weather Reminders.
- Revoke location, notification, motion, or biometric permission in iOS Settings.
- Contact [email] to ask a privacy question or make a complaint.
We will investigate privacy complaints and respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied, you may be entitled to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Security
Weather Budget uses the iOS application sandbox, Keychain protection, system permissions, and Apple’s iCloud infrastructure. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Changes
We may update this policy when Weather Budget’s features or data practices change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made.
